Avatar: Fire & Ash

Avatar: Fire & Ash

Directed by James Cameron

Never bet against King James. With a filmography as banging as his with the box office to back it up, I know better. Thankfully I drink from the Kool-Aid of James Cameron, like yeah duh the guy that gave us Terminator 2 and Aliens and Avatar and oh yeah freaking TITANIC can do whatever he wants. But we're in somewhat uncharted territory, the king of sequel makers has never made a 3rd entry of one of his movies. (He let Terminator run off on its own) After the transcendent beauty of 2022's AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, how could he top it?

Turns out he can't, or maybe won't. Saving the good stuff for a sequel that may never happen? This is more of the same to such a degree I thought I was just watching WAY OF WATER again. The visuals are absolutely out of the world stunning, but it's starting to not be enough. With so much of the same going on (people are captured, there's a standoff/bargain and repeat) the flimsy writing and shoddy attempts at emotion become ever more apparent.

God save the whales! Again. Endless bullets and the same action set pieces we've already seen! This is all spinning in place filler episode getting to the only real interesting narrative, Sigourney Weaver as the teenage Avatar daughter of herself but also is part of the earth spirit? Also Spider can breathe now (I can't even get into Spider right now). The new addition of the pyromaniac tribe that just wants full scorched earth is never fully explore or explained. But they're cool to look at for sure.

I feel numb, whereas previous entries stopped time this one is starting to show wear and tear. The art of it is just so stunning, I still can't fully be mad. But damn dude, I'm kinda dragging my feet on watching this one a second time

AVATAR 4 has to go full hippie dippie weird with all of its bussy please James no more gun fights I'm so tired.
