2025 Year in Review

2025 Year in Review

Me oh my we did it! We're here, we're queer and we like to WATCH MOVIES! So without further ado, and in no specific order are some mostly put together thoughts and hot takes from your favorite erratic gay cis (but don't hold it against me) Oasis Coat Check Bear.

Top 5 Favorite Films

*The Phoenician Scheme*

Wes Anderson has done it again! This time crafting an epic about a ruthless business man and the sudden pondering of his mortality. It's very, very funny.

*Tron: Ares*

The sequel everyone wanted, but not the one they got. All the better for me. An ominous red & black drenched techno action thriller with a Nine Inch Nails soundtrack that had my bussy popping. See y'all in a decade when it's reclaimed

*Prince: Sign 'o' The Times (reissue)*

I am a self proclaimed Prince "super fan" but that don't mean I know it all! And this 1987 concert film was a blind spot for me. Thank the popcorn lords for reissuing it in glorious IMAX for one fabulous weekend (I went twice). It's Peak Prince.

*The Shrouds*

Horror icon and genuine freak David Cronenberg returns with his possible swan song and what a way to go. A pitch black comedy, a paranoid sexual thriller, an AI/tech satire. All about a man and the company he created where people can tap into a live feed of their loved ones' buried decaying body. It's even weirder than it sounds.

*One Battle After Another*

Most of our old school established auteurs are kind of too afraid to make modern set movies, usually sticking to a pre-cellphone time. Director PTA dives headfirst into 2025 sensibilities and gives us a sprawling epic masterpiece. About revolutionaries and white supremacy, fighting fascism with community and goddammit never remembering the password. It's gorgeous and hilarious and thrilling.

IT STINKS 2025

* MCU* (Thunderbolts, Captain America 4, Fantastic 4)

Geez Louise I can't believe how hard I used to ride for the MCU but in my defense, the movies used to be good. Everyone looks miserable on screen and I'm miserable in the audience. We've really lost the plot here. Bye!

* Good Fortune*

With this much comedic talent in front and behind the camera, it should be a real knee slapper. Instead director Aziz Ansari's wet towel of a movie is DOA.

*Stephen King Dystopia* (The Long Walk, The Running Man)

Whether you're walking or running, fascism will come for us all and we won't be saved from these awful movies. Truly a terrible time at the theater.

That's it folks! Hopeful for 2026 and all of her opportunities, this will be it for my reviews (for now?) and if you've read this far I thank you for your support. Special thank you to D'Arcy for making my literal dreams come true, Zelda for helping edit and shape me and Snaxx for continuing the work. It takes a Village, People!

And as always, I'll see you at the movies.
